Essay Animals

Many people have animals as pets while others strongly object to the notion of animals kept in captivity. They believe that animals should live in their natural habitat and imprisoning them in zoos or even as pets at home deprives them of their freedom.
I totally agree with the fact that animals should not be kept in captivity. Animals should have their freedom to roam around and not chained up for the mere pleasure of man. Many people have pets such as cats, dogs, parrots which are either chained or kept in cages.
When animals are taken away from their natural habitat, one advantage is that, they are safe from their natural predators. They can live peacefully without thinking if they are going to be attacked. In fact when they are kept in captivity they are well taken care of and given proper meals. Therefore, there is no need for them to hunt for food and in the process risk injury or death by their predators.
However, one should understand that animals should not be kept in enclosures. Though they may be protected, studies have proven that they become restless and discontented as they have limited space to move around. They also would find it difficult to adjust themselves in the new enclosed environment. They are taken away from the other animals and have to live in isolation. Many animals wallow in depression and as a result fall sick. There have been many cases where wild animals removed from their habitats have died because they have failed to adapt to the new environment.
In short, I think animals should be left alone in their own natural habitats and we should learn to admire and protect them from afar.
